Nick Michael taught English at the Village of Hope in Ghana in the summer of 2005. When Malo Ga Kujilana offered him a chance to develop those first snapshots of Africa, he began polishing his lenses, whetting his pen tips, and paring down his appetite. As an English major with a career in photo-journalism slowly coming into focus, Nick sees this summer as a way to reconcile dust-and-blood headlines with the full-bodied stories of local Africans. He believes that countries that dine on images need to be fed well-rounded meals. He hopes to watch development unfold on both sides of the lens this summer during filming and both sides of the Atlantic this winter when the film is edited. And instead of teaching English, this time he'll be learning Yao.
